Why
A reliable cross-court bandeja will eventually be read: the diagonal defender starts drifting toward it before contact, and the ball that was landing in space now lands at a player in position. The correction is the bandeja down the line: same preparation, contact a fraction earlier, ball into the space the mover has vacated. It does not need to be a winner; it needs to be good enough that the defender stops cheating. After one or two, the cross-court is open again and the pattern resets. Good pairs see this exchange as a conversation: every read gets a reply.

If they keep getting to your bandeja, hit one to the other corner. Same swing, different aim.
Intermediate
The line bandeja is played with the same preparation; the change is the contact point, slightly earlier and more in front.
Advanced
Watch the defender's first step as you set up. If it goes toward the diagonal before you hit, the line is on. If they hold, stay cross-court.
