Playtomic 1.5: learning the walls

A 1.5 lets the ball come off the back glass some of the time and gets it back more often than not. Rallies are longer, and points now go to whichever pair makes fewer silly errors.

What a 1.5 does

  • Plays a straightforward ball off the back glass
  • Serves steadily and returns most serves
  • Goes to the net now and then, usually at the wrong moment

What a 1.5 does not do yet

  • Recover to position after hitting
  • Keep out of the partner's half of the court
  • Choose between a lob and a drive: whatever comes out, comes out

What to work on next

Drop the habits that cost free points: standing still after the shot, rushing the net behind a weak ball, hitting hard when the ball is low. The eight mistakes every padel beginner makes.

On the other scales

The converter files 1.5 under Beginner: you can rally; most points still end on errors. That reads as MATCHi 3 and LTA 2.0; Padel Mates uses the same 0 to 7 numbers as Playtomic. None of it is official, and the bands hold to about half a point. Convert any number.

How the number moves

New players swing: until the reliability figure next to your level passes about 85 percent, two bad evenings can take half a point off. Play, enter every result, and let it settle. More than ten unforced errors in a set puts a player at 2.5 or under. The long version is in padel levels explained.

Test it

In Padel: The Game a 1.5 meets the 1000 PELO pair, Nadia and Tom (improver). They lob and wait and miss a few. Take the net and hold it.

The daily Scenario is filed by level, and the beginner ones are the fair test at 1.5. One from the bank:
